Why You Should Make Coconut Oil a Part of the Diet in Pregnancy
Eating a healthy diet in pregnancy can be tricky. There are
so many aspects to consider:
- Should you try a vegetarian diet in pregnancy?
- What is normal weight gain during pregnancy?
- What are the foods to avoid eating that may harm fetal development?
- Are you getting all the right foods in the correct amounts required by pregnancy?
Tip of the Food Pyramid
With so much focus on the foods occupying the pyramid’s base, the tiny group located at the tip is often dismissed as "junk foods" or "bad fats". This dismissal is detrimental to a healthy
diet in pregnancy or nutrition needs at any other time for that matter.
All fats should not be relegated to the "bad" food list just because so many of the foods which companion their group are unhealthy. The body needs fats to survive and thrive.
The best foods are always derived from ingredients resembling their natural source as closely as possible. The same is true of fats.
The Comeback of Coconut Oil
Most oils on the market today are heavily modified from their natural source. Using complex processes and often many chemical additives, corn vegetables, nuts and other usually healthy
foods are morphed into oils high in disease-producing elements and almost devoid of nutritive value.
This is not true of coconut oil. Like olive oil, coconut oil's most complicated part of its creation is the application of sufficient pressure. Because these very healthy fat choices
are made by just squeezing the meat of the natural fruit, they are a better choice than most oils on the market.
Coconut oil and olive oils complement one another since coconut oil is best for high temperature use, while olive oil is great for lower temperature applications.
